At the scale of the entire Russo-Turkish war of 1828–1829, Moldavia and Wallachia knew few confrontations on their territories. Despite this, on a local level, the regions neighbouring the Danube suffered greatly from the Turkish raids meant to destabilize the Russians’ Western flank. One of these incursions lead to the destruction of the town of Cerneți, which marked its future by setting the stage for the relocation of its inhabitants to the newly founded town of Turnu Severin. This calamity also left us with an image of Cerneți, through a record of the damages it sustained.
By analyzing the information within, we attempted to reconstruct the historical urban setting by analyzing the characteristics of its buildings. The result reveals to us realities that can be considered relatively modest, but at the same time are entangled with particularities that are otherwise difficult to document. While it is true that most houses had a single level and few were built of bricks, we see a great diversity in regard to the ones that were larger in size, to inns and to the interplay between main and secondary buildings.

The article presents information about the beginnings of Romanian bibliology, with emphasis on librarianship and Nicolae Iorga’s contribution to the development of this new science in the interwar period. As part of the activity of mass culturalization, Nicolae Iorga’s initiatives were channelled towards the popularization of reading in Romanian society. We highlight the historian’s connections with pioneers in the field and his efforts in promoting libraries and training future generations of librarians.

The aim of this article is to identify the central topics and directions in the cultural history of ideas about relationships between human beings and nature, how these have developed over time and how they are embedded in everyday practices, institutions and relationships. One relevant topic of discussion in this field is the relationship between historical research and emerging epistemological and ontological approaches questioning human-centered understandings of “culture” and “agency”. These approaches challenge traditional assumptions that emphasize the dominance of human agency. History is not considered any more as being shaped by human agency alone, but by the actions of various living beings. Historical narratives were thus expanded to include more-than-human, multispecies perspectives.
